TAKING OFF FILTHY GARMENTS
Bible Reading: Zechariah 3
"The angel said to those who were standing before him, 'Take off his filthy clothes.' Then he said to Joshua, 'See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you.'" Zechariah 3:4
Joshua was the high priest, the representative of the church in that time. He was the person who everyone expected to be holy and in communion with God, yet here we find him in a sinful, filthy state.
Even at our very best, we cannot even begin to compare to the holiness of our Lord. Our righteousness is like filthy rags compared to Him and our ability to come before Him to worship Him is only by His amazing grace. In our pursuit of holiness, we must not fail to exclude the Lord, for He must be at the centre of our efforts. While we strive to do what is good and true, we can never do enough, and where we fall short is where God does the rest. Being without sin, He is able to take away our sins and clothe us with rich garments. Only He is able to forgive and forget our iniquity and restore us to an honourable position. Therefore let us take off our filthy garments and allow the Lord to cleanse our sins and clothe us with righteousness.
"Father, though I try my best to live out Your ways, I still fall short and need Your grace. Forgive me and clothe me with Your righteousness. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
God bless,
Pastor David Gunawan
