FIRST THINGS FIRST
Bible Reading: Zechariah 7
"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.'" Zechariah 7:9-10
The Word of the Lord came to Zechariah in reply to the people's inquiry of the Lord regarding their fasting. The Lord was very clear in his instructions about prioritisation. The people were interested in traditions, while God was interested in obedience and sincere worship.
It is often easy to become so preoccupied with doing things we think God wants us to do, that we fail to truly do what God has instructed us to do. God wanted the people to administer justice and love, whereas the people were caught up in the pettiness of when they should fast. What is it that we are preoccupied with? Are we focussing on the lifestyle God has called us to live or are we concerning ourselves with religous traditions? While traditions have their merit, they must not become the object of our worship. Our first priority is to live as God has called us to live and be the people God has called us to be. We are to concern ourselves with true worship and intimacy with the Father.
"Father, help me to set my priorities right, placing You first in my life and living as You have called me to live. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
God bless,
Pastor David Gunawan
